Planting Onion Fields

This photo was taken in a small, rural village in Tanzania, featuring the hands of a local woman holding a bag of onion seeds. The onion fields, a sustainability project started by the non-profit organization Lutheran World Relief, act as an revenue supply for the villagers. This project teaches them useful life skills, like growing their own food, as well as business skills, such as balancing a budget and tracking inventory. This is a way for the village to make money and to teach real-life skills.
