I had just returned home from three months in Africa and Lebanon. My schedule allowed me a couple of days at home to reconnect, before flying out to New York for a wedding engagement shoot. As I arrived I developed a staph infection in my nose. If you've ever seen Rudolph, you know what it looked like. At the time not knowing what it was, I went out on the town for a jazz session at a club my friend was a member of. I sat close, in the dark, hoping no one would notice my bulging nose. Holding the camera up in front of my face hurt, just the slightest graze sent my face bolts of pain. But the music. The dancing. We were alive. And my nose matched the room.
