20th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Polar Plunge

Built and set out to get in a short swim before the start of each day. This part of the river is barely one foot deep which requires you to sit in the flowing ice water before laying down to be submerged. A slow process of controlled movements on river stones and ice shards. A natural ice bath before a warm shower will wake you up before your morning coffee.
