Portrait of eagle owl
This eagle owl guards the environment of its chick's nest. It is hidden in the cliffs of the Baltic Sea's steep coast just below the large beech tree this bird is sitting in. Once nearly exterminated in many parts of Germany, eagle owls now belong to the protected species and have recovered well. The forests, farmland and coastline of Northern Germany offer ideal conditions for the world's largest owl.
