Our guide was taking us to see Maximon a Maya Deity in a small town along Lake Atitlan in Guatemala. We walked through numerous narrow streets and finally came to a small room that was set up with an alter and Maximon set in the center. People came in and made offerings of money, cigars, rum, ties, etc. while burning incense and chanting. Maximon was flanked by two guards that took $3 for me to be able to take 2 shots.
