When touring in Chisinau, Moldova, with a group of friends, I wanted to take a picture of the Presidential Palace in "Ștefan cel Mare" Avenue (on the background). While I was taking the picture, an old lady came in my shot, and sat on a bench in front of Palace. All of a sudden, she decides to lay down, in a "precarious balance" on the bench. She did not say a word, but kept looking at the grey sky that, from that perspective, was now in front of her. I saw in this picture as a metaphor for the "precarious balance" that the Republic of Moldova is living today: between a post-soviet past and the wish to join the European Union and its lifestyle. The same “precarious balance” that keeps diving its population, between those who support Russia and those who condemn its aggression in Ukraine. With her decision to take that position on the bench, she became the main subject of the picture, a "metaphor " of the history and future of her country.
