Photography is political. "I want my pictures to cut through political abstractions and make a connection on a human level" said James Nachtwey. Like him I want to create more than a picture, I want to make a story for the eye. Albert Brisbane used the phrase "Use a picture. It's worth a thousand words" and I did that. In the west there's been a dramatic shift against women's rights. Here in Canada I have seen social groups attempt movements to erode women's bodily rights. The shift is strong it's visible in government, news, and the entertainment world. The red cloak has become a symbol of women's oppression due to a popular tv series that discusses a women's right to bodily autonomy. I have three symbols in this photo to convey my story. Mountains and snow to resemble Canada, a red cloak for women's rights, and my sword to symbolize fight and strength. In combination may these items show what side of history I am on.
