14th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Puddle of Fire
Every February the sun aligns in just the right spot to cause a small seasonal waterfall in Yosemite to glow: Horsetail Falls Fire Falls. This was the first year since 2011 where the winter was wet enough to make Horsetail Falls flow and I visited several days to witness the event. I noticed a small puddle on the ground located at just the right place to reflect the Fire Falls and knew I had to get the shot!
