Pantanal, Brazil. 2021 will be remembered in the pantanal as mothers and cubs season. I was there in September and we had been following three mothers with young cubs for around 10 days. Late one afternoon, we spotted Medrosa with her cubs relaxing in a very bushy area a bit high up with only one opening leading to the river. The light was pretty much gone so we decided to leave and come back the second morning. We got there early and positioned the boat facing the opening hoping she would use it to come down for a drink. After a few excruciating hours in heat and humidity Queen Medrosa decided to come down closely followed by her cub. She looked in our direction for a fraction of a second and I took the shot.
