15th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Travel
In A Nutshell
Second-class travel is an experience one cannot put down on paper, let alone fully capture essences through a photo. It is a microcosm of India's middle class, a reflection of their struggles to thrive prosperously in this country's varying socio-economic conditions. A typical Indian middle-class passenger takes a train journey not just as travel but as ritual. He is worried about the other passenger's destination more than his own. The train coupe forms a perfect blend of many cultures and their practices.
