Rainbow over a road in the Kimberleys, Western Australia

This image shows a rainbow over a road in the Kimberley region of Australia. The roads run for hundreds of miles through an area renowned for its imposing storms that sweep over during the Austral summer. Rainbows form due to refraction, reflection, and dispersion of light in water droplets and December creates the perfect conditions when the air is heavy with humidity.
