Last spring, I studied abroad in Padua, Italy. While walking home from my Italian class I turned the corner and was awe-struck by this scene. As the full rainbow stretched over Prato della Valle, the setting sun seemingly turned everything into gold. This is one of my favorite photos from my European travels because I think it represents what study abroad meant to me. For the Italians who called Padua home, Prato della Valle was just the familiar park that marked the center of the town. For me, the aged stone structures, the stunning basilicas, and the bustling human activity in the street markets represented all that I had hoped Italy to be. In my mind, the experience of living and studying in Italy was surreal, just like capturing a full rainbow over a glittering landscape.
