Raju The Boatman
Raju the Boatman has been ferrying many a passenger for the past twenty years in the same boat that his father used. Made of Jackfruit tree bark and harnessed by coir it has lasted more than two decades. He effortlessly saunters through the backwaters of the Vembanad lake ferrying tourists to catch a glimpse of a kingfisher or a sleepy farmer waking up to do his daily chores. He lives in the moment. "Simple Living. Great Thinking" as my mom used to say. He is my unsung hero for many a traveller
