The Reading & Northern's main line between Reading and Jim Thorpe, Pa., passes through the small town of New Ringgold, just a few miles from the Hawk Mountain Sanctuary, and railfans and locals gather at the crossing to watch the train come through. Late on an October afternoon, the steam locomotive screams through town, leaving cinders and smiles in her wake.
