My dear friend Major Lindsey Gerheim has made many sacrifices in her life to serve and protect in the U.S. Army uniform. While moving through the Capitol building one day in March, I found Lindsey looking up at this famous portrait of George Washington. As a gay woman serving in uniform, I believe this photo tells a story of progress but continued service.
