Rio Tinto
384/5000 The river is known for the reddish color of its waters, hence its name. The coloration has its origin in the weathering of minerals containing heavy metal sulphides found in the deposits along the river. These deposits are hydrothermal deposits composed largely of pyrite rocks (iron sulfide) and chalcopyrite (iron and copper disulfide).
