15th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Risky Business
This was one of the many times I walked through Braulio Carrillo´s National Park in Costa Rica, carrying my heavy equipment and looking for elusive birds in their habitat. But that day, an eyelash pit viper snake stole the show of a rufous-tailed hummingbird (Amazilia tzacatl) that was flying among the fleshy flowers.
