Roots and Branches

This is a gate in Dublin Castle. I was struck by the fact that I could see the tree branches behind the stone wall, but not the roots. My husband, a native of New Zealand, and I , a native of the USA had traveled to Ireland on our delayed honeymoon because both of us had Grandmothers of Irish descent. We were tracing our "roots and branches" and seeing them in different ways each day.
