During the golden age of diamond mining in Chapada Diamantina, Northeastern Brazil, many people left their old lifes to try their own lucky with the diamonds. Many of them were very poor people or even slaves, and didn’t have where to go. So they built their homes in rock shelters, like this one, which is located in a cliff right above the river where they used to look for diamonds. Today many of these interesting rocky-made houses can still be seen in this region.
