Sabers plants in the Abandoned Village of Maliha

08/11/2023 Jerusalem, Israel. Sabers plants in the abandoned Palestinian village of Maliha on the outskirts of Jerusalem. The village of Malha was inhabited by Palestinians until 1948. Following the war between the Israelis and the Palestinians, the village was abandoned. Unlike many Palestinian villages that were abandoned that year, Malcha is rare in that it remains standing. The Sabers plant is known as a national symbol in both the Palestinian and Israeli narratives. In both narratives, sabers indicate belonging and connection to the land, even though it was originally imported from South America.
