Sakura

In Japan, cherry blossoms are associated to a very rich symbology but they are most of all an enduring metaphor for the ephemeral nature of life. Therefore the life of the samurai should be like the sakura, beautiful and brief, ending with death on the battlefield. This aspect of the Japanese cultural tradition is often associated with Buddhistic influence and the concept of mono no aware, the conciousness of impermanence.
