Salinas de Maras
This picture was taken of the salt mines of a town outside Cusco, Peru called Maras (located in the Sacred Valley). Each cell is a salt bath and the colorful specks are people. Typically, a family from the area will own on average 1-4 baths and will hire hands to take care of their ponds. The people who work there climb up and down traversing some 3000 baths carrying upwards of 50 pounds of salt on their backs.
