23rd Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Artistic
Salty
Western Australia’s Wheatbelt is home to some of the most surreal and stunning salt lakes on Earth. From above, these natural wonders transform into abstract masterpieces that look like they were painted by hand. Each lake tells its own story. Some show otherworldly colors, others ripple with cracked textures, and some shimmer with crystalline salt formations.
