Mather Pass, the hardest pass to cross in the Sierra Nevada portion of the Pacific Crest Trail, was snow and ice-bound when our team of 6 thru-hikers reached it early in the morning. With crampons and ice axes, we made our way safely up and over. The only indication it was mid-June is Sam's shorts.
