Deep in the Maroon Bells wilderness, Sam eyed our saddle. We were attempting to link the south and north bells by climbing over a snow-covered pass. Early July hadn't yet bestowed enough sun to melt the peaks, leading to a sketchy traverse with severe consequences. We made it thanks to a 30m rope and some follow the leader post-holing.
