A cheetah who was rescued as a cub and grew up at a sanctuary in Namibia is calm and friendly around people and was relaxed posing with a lovely young girl, in her traditional costume, from the San tribe. I had always been a fan of Gregory Colbert's work and went to see the Ashes and Snow exhibit when is toured years ago. I had the opportunity to set up this photography session with the San girl (who is model released) and the tame cheetah who I'd photographed the previous year in the sand dunes of Namibia. We picked a dry river bed as a location and went out in the morning before it got too warm. We had good light and the dry brush as a backdrop and took photos as the cheetah happily gobbled up pieces of chicken and stood next to the girl. I made the image a sepia tone in the true spirit of Ashes and Snow.
