Sand Transport in Myanmar
At Ayeyarwady river in Mandalay (Myanmar), sand is transported across an island to the city bay in small boats. Sand is then unloaded from the boat into small baskets that are carried individually by each worker up the hill into a small truck. This is activity is mainly done by women (although this picture depicts a man) who live with their families temporarily in a government settlement situated in this same hill.
