Sandhill crane In Flight

During the fall migration from Alaska/Canada, the Sandhill cranes winter over at the Bosque del Apache refuge south of Socorro, NM. Fields are planted in grain and then mowed periodically over the winter to feed the birds. During the night they stand in shallow ponds for safety and in the morning, fly to the fields to feed.
