Santa Cruz del Islote is an islet, located in front of the Gulf of Morrosquillo, in the Department of Bolívar, Colombia. It is famous for being attributed to being the most densely populated island on Earth.1 It has about 493 inhabitants, [citation needed] and 65% of the population is underage, there are only 6 surnames and 97 houses. On the island there are some shops, a health post, an educational center where they attend ninth grade, and currently have solar cells donated by the Japanese government, which supply the island with energy 24 hours a day. The island has approximately one Hectare extension or, which is the same, 10,000 m² of surface. The average density of the island is 1.25 inhabitant per 10 m², that is, the density is 125,000 inhabitants per km². However, the inhabitants of the islet deny this data stating that in Santa Cruz do not live more than 600 people, more exactly 493, since "no one has taken the trouble to census house by house to account for its inhabitants", [quote required] and if they have raised that number to more than double it is because "they made the calculation in the month of December, which is where more visitors and tourists arrive to the islet", says the person who claims to be the "inspector" of Santa Cruz [citation needed] He also states that it is also not true that everyone who lives there is part of the same family. This, says the inspector, "is one of the many lies and legends that have been created about this peaceful town in the middle of the sea".
