18th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Sapling Luminescent
While hiking through the Quinault Rainforest, we came upon this little tree making it's way among so many giants. Solar back lighting made it seem saintly. There are so many venerable trees stretching skyward in Olympic National Park, spending time with them is unforgettable. Even though this tree is diminutive, it is my favorite image from my time there. Somehow it seems to shine with hope, a verdant saint in the green.
