Sargassum Frogfish

Sargassum Frogfish (Histrio histrio): the last survivor. Snorkeling in the Mangroves I've spotted and got on photos, for the first time on Bonaire, a Sargassum frog fish. They spend their entire lives in the Sargassum. Its beautiful coloring would camouflage it in its native habitat. It wouldn’t have intentionally settled in the mangroves because everything it needs - food and mates - are in the sargassum. Maybe it's hanging around that algae clump in the mangroves because it’s the safest shelter it can find. Hopefully it is finding plenty of juvenile fishes to eat around its perch. This frogfish individual arrived with the Sargassum invasion last year or 2 years ago, I suppose. It is the frogfish’s bad luck to end up in the mangroves, but it's mine good luck to see such a cool little fish!
