18th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Altered Images
“Sauron’s Tower” Factory Butte, Utah
Next to prominent Factory Butte in Utah, this sandstone tower looks like a scene from The Lord of the Rings! I couldn’t find a formal name for this peak, so I called it “Sauron’s Tower.” Factory Butte rises up behind it like the slopes of Mt. Doom.
