18th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Screaming tree

We were walking and taking in the beautiful landscapes of Patagonia until we came across large areas covered with burnt trees. That's when we heard of the numerous fires that have devastated parts of the region. Most of them were started by careless people. It's heart breaking to see nature destroyed by human negligence. Once I heard the story I got fixated on this tree that stood alone, far from the others and looked like it was screaming with rage and pain.
