23rd Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Travel
Sculpted by Time
The soft volcanic tuff of Cappadocia has been shaped over millions of years by wind and water into these surreal formations. I captured this image at sunset, when the fading light brushed the rocks with soft pinks and oranges, adding warmth to the rugged landscape. The interplay of shadows and gentle curves gives the impression of a natural sculpture garden, carved patiently by time itself.
