22nd Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Seagulls and Splash
Having kayaked and sailed on Lake Superior then driving around the southern shore I realized that the lake might as well be the ocean. As such, when a storm, or front, is coming in the waves are quite large as seen in this photo. Also, I find it amazing that the gulls are not even phased by these large waves rolling in and crashing against the shore. They continued to stand there throughout the tumult.
