The image is an outcome of my struggle with depression and anxiety. The self-portrait shows me sitting on a chair and holding a mirror. My head is bandaged as a reference to self-portrait by Van Gogh - an artist who was also dealing with mental disorders and whom I admire. The whiteness of the sky is reflected in the mirror which might impose a feeling of hope. It could also suggest being void. I am 23 and I've been dealing with mental disorders for half of my life now. It is nothing unusual nowadays - according to World Health Organization, at present 40% of disability worldwide is due to depression and anxiety. Yet we, as a society, still don't know how to act facing the illness and what it actually is. Usually, we can't even recognize it. My aim is to raise awareness about these issues as, in some cases, it is a life threatening illness.
