Shadow of Vesuvius

Herculaneum was destroyed long ago by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, but its ruins remain. I came across the entrance of this ancient town of light and darkness and was captivated by how the shadows served as a reminder that mount Vesuvius could, once again, erupt and darken this seaside town with little warning.
