She Bids Farewell to the Golden Sun
Her bristling plumage, red eyes, razor sharp golden beak, and white tipped wings come to life as this adult female Anhinga bids the golden evening sun farewell. She favors this cypress branch, and for some time has been drying herself after a day of diving and spearing fish in Greenfield Lake, a beautiful cypress tree bog lake in Wilmington, NC. I am obsessed with the form and whimsical movements of this sometimes clunky, always magnificent bird! The detail and classic form of this photo thrill me.
