Sibling Rivalry
The life of Great White Egret chicks is perilous at best, especially if you are the third chick hatched. The two older chicks will shoulder out the smaller chick at feeding time and constantly batter it when a parent arrives with food. The parent makes no effort to help the youngest chick and will often ignore it. The chick will die and the siblings will work until they can push the body out of the nest.
