Unbelievably, this was a watermelon we brought home from a local farm stand. As it sat on our kitchen counter, we were gradually drawn in by the mysterious symbols on the surface of the orb. We came to realize this was a miraculous miniature replica of an uncharted planet, with enigmatic signs of life, echoing its counterpart deep in space. What could those formations possibly be, that resemble crop circles from a distance? And is that a face in the center of the first one…calling for help? And what is that formation that looks like a huge footprint? Should we contact Neil deGrasse Tyson?
