It was my 41st birthday and I traveled to Iceland earlier this year to photograph dogs across the landscape. It was the end of the day and we went to Rauðhólar. It was my actual birthday and I have been a Pet Photographer for the last 7 years. One subject I always wanted to capture but never had the chance to meet was an Afghan Hound. They are so striking in their appearance and so beautiful. This trip to Iceland was a bucket list item for me and one I never thought I'd be able to do, let alone do while photographing dogs across the stunning landscapes there. It was a dream come true. The day had delivered so much more than I could have ever expected and it was now coming to an end. The sensation of fulfillment, happiness and joy I was experiencing at that moment was overpowering. I recognized it and was absorbed into it and it was exactly at that very moment that our beautiful Afghan Hound subject walked across the red volcanic rocks and looked up to the sky, his head held high, silhouetted to the beautiful end of day lighting that marked the experience of a lifetime for me. Every time I see this photo, I am brought back to this moment, these emotions and this incredible experience.
