Smaragdine
This photograph features a lone cypress tree in the Crete Senesi near Vescona in southern Tuscany, Italy. The "Sienese Clays" are so named for the distinctive grey colouration of the soil, which gives the landscape a lunar complexion. In spring, however, the hills are lit up with a smaragdine carpet of fresh pasture.
