A Great Horned owl rests peacefully on a tree limb, unaware that a Red Tailed Hawk is swooping from behind. I have been photographing this owl ever since it moved into my backyard this spring. Up until then, my neighborhood was the sole territory for this Red Tailed Hawk. An abundance of Mourning Doves and Ground Squirrels most likely had drawn the owl to this neighborhood. On this particular morning, I was fortunate to capture a picture at the exact moment the hawk tried to chase away the owl to perhaps, reclaim its territory. However, after being briefly startled, the owl remained on its perch without nary a ruffled feather. I have seen the hawk on several occasions on the prowl in an open field across the street during the summer and fall. And, there are nights I can hear the hoot of an owl. Perhaps, the two have come to an agreement.
