Snow Geese Migration

In late winter, thousands of snow geese settle across the wetlands of the San Francisco Bay, pausing on the Pacific Flyway to feed and rest on the season’s shallow floodplains. Their dense, shifting flocks sweep over the saturated ground in response to water and food availability. Photographed from a small aircraft, the image reveals the scale of the gathering and the significance of the Bay’s remaining wetlands, which continue to support millions of migratory birds despite historic habitat loss.
