Snowy egret dancing ahead of the crashing waves

I was pleasantly surprised to discover that a snowy egrets had taken up feasting on sand crabs near the Santa Monica pier, in California. This egret was seemingly caught by surprise, perhaps by the loudness of a crashing wave. The waves were indeed crashing particularly close to shore that morning. While initially seeming startled, it nevertheless gracefully danced away from the water.
