Sockeye salmon spawning in a pond
Hundreds of sockeye salmon spawn in a spring-fed pond in Iliamna Lake, Alaska. Bristol Bay, Alaska is home to some of the last remaining pristine spawning grounds for wild sockeye salmon. Here sockeye salmon have their choice of unaltered habitats to spawn in, from clean flowing streams to clear spring-fed ponds like this one.
