Sofreh haft seen

During Persian New Year- Nowruz which occurs around 19-21 of March every year, and lasts for 13 days of holiday and celebration. There are many traditional ceremonies people hold to celebrate the new year and have fun. First of all, this set up which called "Sofreh Haft Seen" that consists of 7 symbolic items that represent a beautiful meaning each. Which start with the letter S in farsi 1)Apple: represents health and beauty 2)Grass: represents rebirth and renewal of nature 3)Whip pudding: represents fertility and sweetness of life 4)Russian Olive: represents love and affection 5)Vinegar: represents patience and age 6)Garlic: represents good health 7)Crushed spice: represents the sunrise and the spice of life The mirror symbolizes the sky and self-reflection. Candles bring light to the Sofreh. And for fertility eggs are painted. The whole set up is to remind Iranians strat the new year healthy and happy. All of these cultural / historical celebrations have been celebrated for thousands of years and it really is an integral part of Iranian culture.
