18th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Solo
I was walking around Tucson, Arizona, when I came across this prickly pear cactus that was growing out of the gutter on top of a building. As I passed by, I couldn't help but think about how symbolic this little cactus was. It made me think of perseverance in tough times, and how we have to deal with challenges on our own sometimes.
