The model is my boyfriend, who is black and Puerto Rican. The other day, I had heard him speaking on the phone with his family about how half of the family was fluent in Spanish while the other half was not. It is something that his mother regrets not teaching them, but she refrained from doing so to make her children's lives easier when moving to the US. They had lived in New York for a time and a favorite pastime of theirs was going to baseball games, so I wanted to capture these different elements in a photo.
