14th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Splendor of Knossos
Peacocks used to wander the grounds of Knossos in its ancient glory. Backin the days of Pharoahs and Empires. Today Knossos stands empty and eroded, however nature has survived the test of time. The peacocks still roam over the ruins of ancient civilizations. Sustainable travel should help all to see these wonders of the world without leaving an ecologic imprint or cost on the sites we visit.
